SQUIK: An Odd "Cooldown" Game

This started life as a cooldown from another jam, a quick experiment with a room in GameMaker, playing with a save system and a larger room. As the day I had dedicated to throwing together went on, I had realized that I was working on it for a while. It was ballooning into something a little bigger than I had anticipated, fast forward on and off a week and change of development time, I ended up with this little adventure.

Usually I make a quick little cooldown game after a jam to experiment with lessons learned from the previous jam. In this case I was interested in save systems and stats that carry across deaths and even play sessions, so I immediately turned to Metroid. I made a single huge room for the entire game to take place in, putting together permanent and non-permanent elements, being careful to add shortcuts back so players don’t get stuck.

I liked this little design challenge and I’d love to see how it plays out! I’d especially love to hear where the game could improve! Thank you for playing this and reading this little post on my game! :)
